1. Our Family Paper Dolls
Materials:
Steps:
These can be used to represent different family members in the family journal.
Materials:
- A packet of pre-cut paper dolls or cardboard to make your own
- Photographs of your family faces at approx the right size to stick on to the heads
- Bits and pieces to decorate: pencils and textas, paper scraps, material scraps, felt scraps, etc.
- Glitters, bling, sequins
- Glue and scissors
Steps:
- Print out pictures of your family members and crop around your heads at approximately the right size as your paper doll heads.
- Glue the faces on to your dolls.
- Keep the doll on the piece of felt/ scrap and trace around the doll to get the hair and clothes the right size.
- Use cup cake liners or any material of your choice for skirts.
- Colour in to make different types of costumes.
- Glitter, bling or sequins can be used for additional decoration

2. Family puppets
This activity is similar to the paper dolls activity but gives children an opportunity to showcase their artistic talents better by creating their own drawings of their family members.
*Children can create their own story and show and tell on Open night. This is a good opportunity for parents to observe, share and enjoy their children's learning experience at school.

- Teacher must print out blank puppets.
- Using colour pencils, textas or crayons children must make a puppet for each member of their family.
- You could add other decorative materials like sequins or glitter if needed.
- Once the puppets are completed, stick each one on to a pop-stick.

3.Family shield with help and resources from parents

- Black art paper
- Pictures of family's favourite food, favourite activity, flag or any picture specific to their country.
- Aluminium foil and A3 art paper
- stickers, jewels for decoration
Steps:
- Cut the black art paper in the shape of a shield (Teacher or EA assisted).
- Divide the shield into four quadrants
- Stick the picture of family's favourite food and write the name of the food in one quadrant.
- Stick the picture of family's favourite activity and write the name of the activity in one quadrant.
- Stick the country's flag (drawn or photograph) and write the name of the country in one quadrant.
- Write/ cut and paste from magazines/draw and colour the initials of the names of all the members in the family in the last quadrant.
- Decorate the shield.
- Wrap the A3 sheet using aluminium foil.
- Stick the shield on the A3 sheet wrapped in aluminium foil.
4. Family Hand prints Craft

- paper,
- pencil,
- scissors,
- Optional: hole punch and string
- family
- Trace each family member's hand
- Cut out the hand print
- Write "My family member is special because..." (or the parent can write it out for younger children).
- Punch a hole in the top and the bottom of each hand and tie them together to form a long chain of hand prints.
- Hang the chain on your bedroom wall.
5.Family eBook using BookCreator
Children will work individually with the help of the classroom EA or teacher to create their own eBook on 'Me and My Family'. Each page will contain information about each of their family members, family's favourite food, favourite activity, family celebration and family picture.

*All the art created by the children will be displayed on parent's open night along with their eBooks that can be displayed on the smart board for all parents to watch and enjoy!
